儒 is composed of the BuShou of人(a man) and 需(means need, it is originated from facial hair which is smooth and pendent as the dropping of rain). Etiquette is a must of civilization, the one who knows etiquette is always the elder with beard. Confucianists value etiquette, so they call themselves儒.
