倣 is composed of the radical 人 (person) and 放 (release). 倣 illustrates the scene of a criminal being driven away or banished. In ancient times, rulers would impose severe punishments on certain wrongdoers to deter others from following their example to commit bad deeds; hence, 倣 came to mean to emulate, imitate, or resemble.
