倉 is composed of a variant of 合 (fit) and 戶 (door). 合 is a pictograph of a covered container, carrying the inherent sense of storing or containing, while 戶 is a pictograph of a door. Together, 倉 represents a building designed to gather and store grain or goods—a warehouse or granary. Additionally, retrieving stored grain was usually triggered by sudden emergencies like famines and required urgent execution; thus, 倉 also developed the extended meaning of being hasty, sudden, or hurried.
