緣 is composed of the radical 糸 (silk) and 彖 (pig snout). 糸 represents woven fabrics such as clothing, while 彖 means protruding and extends to the sense of an edge or border. The original meaning of 緣 is the decorative border of a garment. Later, it came to broadly refer to the edge or margin of any thing, and also means to surround or to border.
