睾 is composed of the variant of 自 and the variant of 羊. 自 is the picture of a nose, while goat has special odor, and only mature male goat has such odor, so 睾 is used to describe the sex organ of male.
睾 is always misused as 睪, in fact, they have different origin and meaning.
