槍 is composed of 木 (wood) and 倉 (warehouse). Since ancient weapons were mostly crafted from wood, and 倉 carries the extended meaning of being hasty or swift, 槍 conveys the idea of a weapon designed for incredibly fast, sudden attacks. Thus, it came to represent thrusting spear weapons and, in modern times, firearms that fire bullets.
