枉 is composed of 木 (wood) and a variant of 往 (go, toward). 木 is a pictograph of a tree, while 往 indicates moving forward. The branches of a tree grow outward in different directions, gradually bending and twisting. Thus, 枉 originally described bending or curving, later extending to mean injustice or unfairness.
