chopsticks

箸 is composed of the radical 竹 (bamboo) and 者 (this, person). 者 depicts a pile of firewood being used to start a fire for cooking, and from the pile of firewood it extends to the meaning of gathering or accumulation. In ancient times, chopsticks were mostly made of bamboo, and the tips of the chopsticks must come together in order to pick up food. Therefore, 箸 is used to represent chopsticks.
