拔 is composed of the BuShou of 手(hand) and 犮. 犮 is composed of 犬(dog) and one stroke, such stroke crosses with dog leg, which means the dog is trapped, the dog will struggle to pull out its leg and run if it is trapped, so 犮 has the meaning of pulling out. On the other hand, if we want to pick something up, we need to use our hands.
