握 is composed of the radical 手 (hand) and 屋 (house). 屋 refers to a house or shelter—a closed structure that can enclose or contain something inside. Just as a room contains what is inside it, pulling the five fingers together tightly encloses and holds fast onto an object; thus, 握 was formed to represent grasping, holding, or gripping with the hand.
