票 has an upper part composed of 囟 (fontanel) and a pictograph of two hands, conveying the idea of opening or dispersing. The lower part is a variant of 火 (fire), depicting the scene of bones being cremated and the ashes floating and rising upward. The original meaning of 票 is a leaping flame, but this sense was later taken over by the character 熛. Nowadays, 票 is used to describe something as light as flying ashes that can be lifted by the wind, and it refers to paper that can serve as a certificate or voucher.
