祀 is composed of the BuShou of 示 (show, reveal) and 巳 (sixth earthly branch). 巳 is the picture of a fetus. Ancient Chinese valued birth of children, and they always prayed for children, so 巳 has the meaning of offering sacrifices, but then such meaning is represented by 祀.
