過
pass, over
過 is composed of the BuShou of 辵 and 咼(the picture of a skull and a mouth). 咼 has the meaning of concavity, while 辵 means walking on the road, if there is a hole in front of us while we are walking, we will step over it. on the other hand, Confucianism in ancient China doctrine of the mean middle or appropriateness(中庸), stepping over can be seen as a trespass or fault, so 過 also means making mistake.
