遇

meet, encounter

遇 is composed of 辵 (movement) and 禺 (image). 辵 represents walking, while 禺 is a pictograph of a human figure. In ancient times, human figures were mainly used as burial companions so that the deceased would have company on the journey to the underworld and would not feel lonely; thus 偶 also means a companion. From this, 遇 conveys the idea of meeting a companion on the road, and means to encounter or to meet.
