隅

corner

隅 is composed of 阜 (mound) and 禺 (image). 阜 represents elevated ground and carries the sense of loftiness or elevation, while 禺 is a pictograph of a human figure. In ancient times, human figures were mainly used as burial companions. Therefore, 隅 conveys the idea of an imperial mausoleum. Ancient imperial tombs were usually located on the outskirts of the capital city. From this, 隅 came to mean a corner or the side.
