is composed of (speech) and (essence). originally represented the words of a monarch; as it later developed other derivative meanings, the radical was added to emphasize its original connection to speech. When a minister or official made an error, the ruler would speak out to reprimand them, which often led to demotion or banishment as punishment; thus, was formed to denote censure, demotion, or exile.
