軒
pavilion, tall, high
軒 is composed of 車 (cart, vehicle) and 干 (shield). 干 is a pictograph depicting a shield placed on a stand, implying protection or screening. Thus, 軒 originally refers to an ancient type of carriage with a high front canopy and curtains for shielding, which only nobles were allowed to ride, extending to mean elevated or lofty, and also denoting a small pavilion or house.
