蛻 is composed of 虫 (insect) and 兌 (exchange). 兌 depicting a man speaking with a smile, when someone smiles, his cheek muscles stretch, so 兌 has the meaning of separation. 虫 is the picture of snake, so 蛻 means exuvia.
