弘
broaden, great
弘 is composed of 弓 (bow) and 厶 (private). 厶 is a pictograph of a loop of rope and indicates a personal domain. Because of human greed, one’s own domain is always preferred to be as large as possible, so 厶 extends to the meaning of spreading open. When using a bow, the string must be forcefully drawn taut. Therefore, 弘 means to enlarge or vast.
