剝
come off
剝 is composed of 彔 (carve wood) and the radical of 刀 (knife). 彔 depicts a water-drawing device set up over a well. In ancient times, to effectively distribute water, whenever someone drew water, they would use a knife to carve marks on the well frame to record the amount taken by each household. After the well frame was cut by the knife, wood chips would fall off. Therefore, 剝 means to detach or remove.
