㸒 is composed of a variant of 爪 (claw) and 壬 (magnificent). 爪 represents seizing or snatching, while 壬 depicts a person standing on an earthen mound and conveys the idea of an attained position or status. The original meaning of 㸒 is to seize what others have obtained, and it extended to the meanings of greed and excess. Later, this meaning was taken over by the character 淫. Nowadays, 㸒 is no longer used independently and only appears as a component in other characters.
