爯 is composed of a variant of 爪 (claw) and a variant of 魚 (fish), depicting a hand lifting a fish to estimate its weight. It originally meant to lift an object with the hand or to weigh, but this meaning was later taken over by 稱. Nowadays, 爯 is not used independently and only serves as a component in other characters.
