厭 is composed of 厂 (cliff) and 猒 (eat to the full). 厂 means a cliff or mountain and carries the sense of a heavy weight pressing down from above, while 猒 means satiety or being full. If one eats too much, the stomach feels as if it is under heavy pressure and becomes uncomfortable. Therefore, in addition to meaning satiety, 厭 also means aversion, dislike, or detestation.
