亡
flee, lose, die
亡 depicts a person fleeing into a dark, secluded corner or hiding behind a wall, originally signifying escaping, fleeing, and losing or disappearing. Because running away or going into exile in ancient times was a perilous endeavor carrying a high risk of death, 亡 naturally extended to mean dying, perishing, or being destroyed.
