會 is a pictograph depicting a covered container filled with minced meat. The container gathers the pieces of meat together so they do not scatter, giving 會 its meaning of gathering, assembling, or meeting. Additionally, just as objects converge inside a box, the character developed an extended sense of synthesizing knowledge within the mind—thus 會 also came to mean understanding, comprehending, or mastering a skill.
