毄 is composed of 軎 (axle) and 殳 (spear). 軎 means the axle of a spinning wheel, in the ancient chariot’s fighting, the chariots would use their ends of the axles to hit each other, while 殳 is the picture of a hand holding a weapon. Both have the meaning of hitting or striking, so 毄 also has such meaning, but it has been replaced by 擊, now we won’t use it. Another interpretation, if an infantryman wanna defeat a chariot, he needs to hit its axle with his spear.
