藍 is composed of the BuShou of 艸(grass) and 監. 監 is a picture of an eye looking at the image reflected by a container with water, the reflection usually shows the color of blue sky, and such color can be extracted from the leaves of a plant(Polygonum tinctorium), so 艸 is added.
