夢 is composed of 夕(the picture of moon), a variant of 目(an eye), a variant of爿(bed) and a variant of two hands(but it has been replaced by the BuShou of 艸). The upper part of夢 depicts a man sleeping on a bed, but such picture has been replaced by the picture of rubbing eyes which represent the act of waking up from a dream. On the other hand, since most people sleep at night, so夕 is added.
