尞 depicts a tree that is burning and means to burn or to set on fire, but this meaning was later taken over by 燎. Because the fire’s light is bright and illuminates people, 尞 was also used to describe a fine or beautiful appearance; this meaning was later taken over by 僚. Nowadays 尞 is rarely used independently and serves only as a component in other characters.
