興 is composed of a variant of 舁 (lift) and 同 (same). 舁 represents four hands and indicates lifting, while the original meaning of 同 is a bamboo tube. Therefore, 興 conveys the idea of four hands jointly lifting a bamboo tube, and carries the senses of rising up or setting in motion.
