毓 is composed of 每 (each), a variant of 子 (child), and a variant of 川 (river). 每 is a pictograph of a mother, 子 represents a newborn infant, and 川 represents the amniotic fluid at the time of birth. Therefore, the original meaning of 毓 is a woman giving birth. However, this sense was later mostly replaced by the character 育.
