禺
image, area
禺 is a pictograph of a human figure. In ancient times, human figures were mainly used as substitutes for living people in sacrificial burials and were dressed in clothes. Therefore, apart from the head and hands, the other parts of the figure were simplified. The original meaning of 禺 is a human figure or image, but this sense was later taken over by the character 偶. Nowadays, 禺 is not often used independently and mostly appears as a component in other characters. In addition, 禺 was also used in ancient times as a unit of area, which is estimated to have been related to the extent of aristocratic burial grounds.
