豬
pig, swine, hog
豬 is composed of 豕 (pig) and 者 (this, person). 豕 depicts a mammal with short limbs and a plump body. 者 originally meant cooking food. In ancient times, this animal was an important sacrificial offering to ancestors and deities, and later gradually became a major source of meat. Therefore, the 者 component was added to create 豬 to emphasize this.
