氈 is composed of 亶 (true, real) and 毛 (fur). 亶 is composed of 㐭 (granary) and 旦 (dawn), conveying the image of a granary built on flat, open land, which extends to mean things on the ground or surface. Cushions or mats are laid directly on the ground and are often made of animal hair or wool, therefore 氈 is used to represent felt.
