離 is composed of 离 (leave) and 隹 (bird). 离 depicts the scene of a bird escaping from a net, while 隹 is the pictograph of a bird; thus 離 conveys the image of a bird separating from the net and regaining its freedom, and means to part, to separate, or to leave.
