閱 is composed of 門 (door) and 兌 (exchange). 兌 is a pictograph of a person speaking with a smile. Thus, 閱 depicts a person opening a door with a smiling face. To see what lies behind the door, one must first open it, and upon seeing clearly, joy naturally appears on the face.
