我 is a pictograph of an ancient weapon. This weapon has a long handle and a serrated blade, and was mainly used by commanders when presiding over ceremonial processions. Because of its distinctive shape and its higher status compared to ordinary weapons, 我 later came to be used as a first-person pronoun, since every person regards themselves as unique.
